On 12 June 2008, the Supreme Court of the United States (SCOTUS) handed down an opinion in a 5-4 split that enemy combatants captured on the battlefield have the U.S. Constitutional right to appear in a U.S. civilian court to challenge their detention. Four liberal Justices + the swing vote (Kennedy) ruled AGAINST AMERICA and four conservative Justices dissented.
